Kelly Slater Wins First Place In QuickSilver Pro

April 12, 2013 By Admin

The undisputed ASP World Champion surfer Kelly Slater came away with a first place win at last month’s Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast hosted by Range Rover. It wasn’t an easy win by any means, as Slater was forced to surf against Australian native Joel Parkinson, but in the end he came away with the first place trophy. Although Slater is no newcomer to winning world tour events, this was the first time Quicksilver Pro trophy he’s ever won. Here we’ll take a look back at Slater’s phenomenal victory at the 2013 Quicksilver Pro and reveal what’s next for this all-star surfer.

Slater’s Career

Born February 11, 1972 in Cocoa Beach, FL, Kelly Slater is arguably the most widely known professional surfer in the world. He’s won an incredible 11 ASP World Champion titles, which is more than any other surfer has even come close to accomplishing. Along with his collection of ASP titles, Slater has also surpassed Tom Curren for the most career wins. In short, Slater is a legend in the surf world and it doesn’t look like he plans on retiring anytime soon.

While most people know Kelly Slater as one of the world’s best surfers, he’s also had a pretty successful run with film appearances. The first movie he played in was “Surfers,” which was released in 1990. Since then, he’s played in over a dozen other movies and television shows, some of which include “Baywatch,” “Young Guns,” “Young Guns II” and Young Guns III.” He’s even starring in an upcoming movie titled “Wave Warriors 3.”

2013 QuickSilver Pro

The 2013 QuickSilver Pro took place on the beautiful beaches of Kirra in Queensland, Australia. It was a no-holds-bar match with Kelly Slater going up against Joel Parkinson for the title win in the final. Parkinson rode first and gained a 8.67 score by the judges. Slater responded, however, by surfing a 5-foot wave and getting a 6.83 score. While this left Slater behind his opponent, he wasn’t calling it quits just yet. Not long after, Slater rode a wave that generated him a 9.83 score, placing him in first place over Parkinson.

Although Parkinson had some pretty good rides during the final, it wasn’t enough to trump Slater’s impressive scores. As a result Slater came away with the first place trophy as the 2013 QuickSilver Pro. The next ASP Men’s Prime will be held in Itauna, Saquarema, Brazil from May 20-26.
