Beater, Stump or Skipper? Which Catch Surf Stick is Right for You…

February 21, 2017 By J. Taylor

Catch Surf has a whole quiver of different surf craft to choose from now, but how do you know which is the best stick for you? Let’s clear it up once and for all, with the definitive guide to picking the Catch Surf surfboard that’s your perfect match!

Stump – Your Small Wave Shredder

A post shared by CATCH SURF (@catchsurf) on Dec 20, 2016 at 12:27pm PST

It looks kinda like a softtop longboard chopped in half and that’s probably why it’s called the Stump! All the pro surfers on the Catch Surf team are loving the Odysea Stump, and for good reason too. It’s a softop that lets you commit to laying down some rail and slotting yourself into the green room. Coming in both a thruster and quad fin setup gives you a choice on whether you want a skatier, looser feel or prefer a bit more stability. Chippa Wilson, Not Deane, and Jamie O’Brien all have their own signature model of the Stump. It’s a solid choice for when the waves are small and you want some extra float without losing performance.

Skipper – Your Performance Softop

A post shared by CATCH SURF (@catchsurf) on Jan 5, 2017 at 2:07pm PST

The Odysea Skipper blurs the lines between performance shortboard and softops, it’s built for riding solid waves and won’t let you down when you want to pull off radical maneuvers. If you can shred on a shortboard and want a softie that gets as close to that level of performance as possible, the Skipper is the Catch Surf stick for you. It comes with a quad fin setup as standard, giving you extra hold in bigger surf and more speed in the small stuff. It’s been put through its paces in Indo by Pipeline local Jamie O’Brien, as you can see in this next video…

Beater – Your Everyday Fun Stick

A post shared by CATCH SURF (@catchsurf) on Nov 18, 2016 at 11:46am PST

The versatility of the Catch Surf Beater is where its strength lies, with multiple fin setups and the option to go finless, this softie can be ridden lying down or standing up. It’s a short little thing, making it super maneuverable but tricky to truly master, so it’ll give you loads of fun and longevity at the same time. If you like fooling around in semi-surfable waves and your local break is a shore dump most days then the Beater Board is definitely the Catch Surf surfboard for you. Morgan Just has been riding Beater Boards for years now, he was one of the first signings for Catch Surf, and he still can’t get enough of them!

Now you know which Catch Surf surfboard is going to be best for you all you need to do is get your hands on one! Head over to the DriftingThru Shop to get the best deal out there on the Stump, Skipper, and Beater…
