As you may already know, the 2013 Men’s World Title is underway. It places the world’s best male surfers up against one another in a no-holds bar challenge. In total, there are 34 surfers from all parts of the world competing in 10 different surfing competitions. Although there’s no event scheduled for April, the tournament picks back up next month in none other than Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. If you are interested in learning more, keep reading and we’ll give you a sneak peak at the upcoming events for the 2013 ASP Men’s World Title.
May 8-19 Brazil
As stated above, the next event in line for the 2013 ASP Men’s World Title is Rio De Janeiro, which will take place from May 8-19. It’s hosted by Billabong Pro and will hand out the largest cash prize sum of any competition this year – $500,000. Brazil is a beautiful country at this time of year, so we can expect to see some killer waves and breathtaking beaches.
June 2-14 Tavarua/Namotu-Fiji
Later in the summer, the 10 surfers competing in the ASP Men’s World Title will visit Tavarua/Namotu-Fiji for another event. Kelly Slater is the defending champion here, so you can bet he’s going to put up a good fight. The event is hosted by Volcom Fiji Pro, and they will be giving away $450,000 in prize money.
August 15-26 Teahupoo,Taiarapu-Tahiti
In August, the Men’s World Title will go Teahupoo,Taiarapu-Tahiti, which is considered to be one of the best surfing beaches in the world. Pronounced “Choo-Poo,” Teahupoo has some of the heaviest, full-bodied waves you’ll ever find. With an average height of 1.5-3 meters tall, these are ideal for most professional surfers. The upcoming event here will be sponsored by Billabong Pro with Mick Flanning as the defending champion.

Currently, Australian-born pro surfer Taj Burrow is leading the pack at the 2013 ASP Men’s World Title with an impressive 12,080 points. One of his many accomplishments was qualifying for the ASP World Tour at the age of 17, making him the youngest person to do so. While he’s now 34 years old, Burrow had made quite an impression in the surfing community with his natural ability to ride waves. Whether or not he will come away with a first place at the 2013 ASP Men’s World Title is yet to be seen. There are plenty of events and points remaining.
